Ingredients
- 1egg, slightly beaten
- 1/4cup milk, light cream, or half-and-half
- 2slices bread
- 1tablespoon margarine or butter
- Maple-flavored syrup
- Fresh fruit (optional)
Directions
- In a shallow flat dish beat together egg and milk with a fork until combined. Dip bread slices in egg mixture. In a medium skillet melt margarine over medium-low heat.
- Cook dipped bread slices in margarine for 2 to 3 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Serve with maple-flavored syrup. Garnish with fresh fruit, if desired. Makes 1 serving.

SAVORY FRENCH TOAST:
Prepare French Toast for One as directed above, except add 1 teaspoon chopped onion, 1/8 teaspoon dried dillweed, and dash pepper to egg mixture. If desired, top cooked slices with shredded cheese.Prepare French Toast for One as directed above, except add 1 teaspoon sugar, 1/4 teaspoon finely shredded orange peel, and a few drops of vanilla to the egg mixture. If desired, sift powdered sugar over cooked slices.
ORANGE DESSERT TOAST:- Place bread slices in egg mixture, cover tightly, and refrigerate overnight. Or, dip bread slices in egg mixture, wrap individually in moisture- and vaporproof material, and freeze for up to 1 week. Prepare as directed.
